“MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) –

A Memphis police officer found himself on the other side of the bars Wednesday.

Memphis Police Department confirmed Officer Edrick Braxton, 46, has been suspended with pay.

He is charged with aggravated sexual battery, official oppression, and official misconduct.

According to court documents, on June 27, Braxton used ‘force and coercion’ to engage in sexual contact with the victim while he was armed with a weapon.

MPD Interim Police Director Mike Rallings said these type of actions will not be tolerated within the department.

“That type of behavior from a law enforcement officer will not be tolerated and so I just want any officer that works with us or any other agency that’s thinking about committing any crime, you better think twice,” Rallings said. “No one does a better job policing our officers than we do. When some type of criminal activity is brought to our attention, we’re going to take immediate action.”

A spokesperson for MPD said police found out about the situation and they launched an internal investigation, which ultimately led to the arrest.

Braxton is currently out of jail after posting bond.”
